“I wanted to start my own
business, but I didn’t know how to go about it.” Joe
said. “I was married and responsible for my half of the bills.
But, my wife encouraged me to go after my dream. She had a good
job working at a bank. She backed me 100 percent. I couldn’t
have done it without her”
In the first year, Trends painted
autos appeared in many car shows. As demand increased, so did the
need for more space. Joe’s move from working in his garage
at home happened when the paint booth he rented down the street
went for sale. While nervous about the $400 monthly payment, he
took the opportunity. For 12 years, Trends worked from a two-bay
shop before moving to its current location. Today, Trends offers
services like frame and collision repair, custom body, restorations,
pin striping and suicide doors.
“I was at the right time and
place when I started,” he said. “Across the street was
the 510 car club. Those guys took a risk with me. I would candy
their cars for $1500 when other shops were charging $1800. Back
then, it was about wheels and paint. Every car I painted was at
a car show the following week.”
Featured in magazines, such as Low
Rider, Truckin’, Mini Truckin’, Street Customs, Low
Rider Edge, Auto Sounds, BLVD and Performance, the company Joe built
is a talented team of craftsmen who have captured the respect of
the car show community. Trends remain at the cutting edge with superior
paint and body works, fresh accessories, innovative engineering
